The first nations government disbursement program is now live

The first nations government disbursement program for Canada is
now live. The
program is designed to provide a more cost-effective and
streamlined process for the disbursement of Canadian government
issued funds to the native communities from various Canadian
tribes across British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba and the
Maritimes. Third party Canadian government auditors are
responsible for the accountability of the funds disbursed by the
Canadian government. The payments and disbursements are for
established treaties, land claims, welfare (payroll) and oil
revenues.

despite the challenging circumstances we have had to overcome"

flexibility shared by our Canadian BIN sponsor and technology
partners has been a major aspect of our success in being to
identify the right payment provider which can accommodate the
intricate pricing requirements needed to make this happen." A
Canadian marketing organization will be responsible for the
marketing material and sales co-ordination in working with the
existing relationships they have with several of the bands
across the western provinces of Canada.
The
First Nations prepaid card addresses the real needs of benefit
recipients. On average, recipients spend countless hours in line
each month waiting to receive their checks and many must then
travel outside of their communities to check cashing facilities.
The majority of benefit recipients in Canada's native
communities do not have traditional banking relationships and
rely solely on check cashing facilities losing, on average, 3%
of their monthly benefits income plus a $2.50 to $3.00 fee per
check for this service.
Several first nations payroll card projects were launched by
other companies during 2007 but none are yet to make any inroads
as most of the program owners have had no long term relationship
with the bands which is a fundamental requirement for program
positioning and acceptance.
